Best Motorcycle Trailer

Motorcycle October 27, 2014

Looking for the best motorcycle trailer that will last for years? Choosing the best motorcycle trailer can be a difficult task. There are many different models and brands available that all say they are the best but how do you know which is the best? What specific aspects of the trailer should you examine before making your final decision? In this article we will discuss some of the more important things to consider about a trailer.

Things to consider when choosing the best motorcycle trailer for your needs include how the trailer is made, how smooth the trailer rides, size, and whether or not you need an enclosed trailer or an open trailer. It may seem like a lot to consider but remember you will have this trailer for a long time and this is the time to make sure you get what you really need. Most people have only one motorcycle so a small trailer may seem right for you at this time. But what if you decide to get a second bike or another member of the family decides to get one, too? Then a larger trailer may be needed. You may even consider getting a trailer large enough to haul other items besides the motorcycles. There are a lot of things to consider.

After you have chosen the size of the trailer that fits your needs, it is time to examine how the trailer is made. A well built trailer may be constructed of aluminum tubing or L channel beams. Check to see that all of the aluminum is well braced and that the welds have been properly executed. If you see some shoddy welds or even spot welds, then I would stay away from that trailer. Many manufacturers try to cut corners by only welding the joints enough to pass inspection. Only the best motorcycle trailer will have plenty of braces and a nice clean welding job.

Another thing to consider when choosing the best motorcycle trailer is how smooth the trailer rides. The suspension of the trailer should be able to support the weight of the motorcycle and offer a smooth ride over rough surfaces. Be sure to ask the dealer about suspension alternatives. Many times the trailers can be modified with a better suspension that can hold more weight and offer a better rider in general. You don’t want your motorcycle bouncing around on long trips. This can lead to damage to both the bike and the trailer.

Should you choose an enclosed trailer or an open trailer? This all depends on how much you are willing to spend and what level of protection you are needing. If you are only planning on transporting your motorcycle on short trips, then an open trailer will more than suffice. But if you are planning to take longer trips, then I would advise purchasing an enclosed trailer. This will offer the best protection from road debris and weather. There is also the added benefit of being able to lock your trailer at night when stopping at a hotel or when leaving the trailer unattended.

I hope this information helps you to find the motorcycle trailer that fits your needs.
